A Belated Tribute

  Motor racing is a team sport that tends to focus on one participant, the driver. Yet it is a sport that is impossible to do without a lot of teamwork.  Racing also demands extraordinary personal sacrifices. To all of my crew, I sincerely appreciate your commitment and  intensity and I hope you found our shared experience as rewarding as I did.

My brother Fred Yee crewed in 1981-1982, working on both the Lotus 61MX and the Crossle 32F.  Fred was there for an unforgettable podium finish at the 1982 Alberta Pro-Ford Championship in our fourth-ever race.  Dave Lawson crewed on two trips to Gimli, Manitoba in 1982 and 1983 and did considerable work outfitting two support vehicles.  Larry Geoghegan supported me in my solitary but memorable appearance at Westwood, BC in 1984.

Tom Reynolds, his son Jamie, and Eric Lee were my crew when I began racing in Ontario in 1986. Pat Ryan took over in 1990 when we switched to radials for the Becker's Yokohama Challenge.  That year was our first appearance in the National Championship, held that year at Mont Tremblant, Quebec.  In 1991, I joined Durham Motorsports to contest the Esso Protec Championship.  Ken Robins was the Team Manager.  Steve Beres was my race technician.  In 1992, Ivan Samila managed our effort in the Hankook Challenge Series with direction from racer Don Roberton and help from Martin Orbanic.  That year we also ran selected races in the CASC Ontario Region, picking up a win and finishing third in the championship.

During the years in Ontario, I got a lot of guidance and encouragement from all my mates at the raceshop, none more than Russell Wells, who has forgotten more than I'll ever know about fabricating and racecars.  Racers Jeremy Hill and Russ Dingwall were also especially supportive.  In the early days in Calgary, Brad Harker helped with the Mini Cooper S and did some of the early work on the Lotus.
